I think one of the most beautiful parts of my job is making friends in the most unexpected ways. When I met Jessica, I realized we had quite a bit in common and her Facebook posts are some of my favorites. Kind, but honest. A thoughtful parent, but not trying to pretend she’s got it all together.

I thought asking her for some kind of “recommendation” might be nice. Books work, right? We had a good laugh when her reply was: “I can’t believe this but I don’t think I have read an entire book in at least six months. Two kids is more like go hard all day and then collapse on the couch and watch bad TV. Could I do something like 5 favorite kids’ books? Or is that kind of lame?”

Fair. I’ve been working on one book for about 3 months. ALMOST DONE.

Here’s Jessica’s two year old’s favorite books right now. Followed by pictures of their sweet little family. Enjoy!

1) Rosie Revere Engineer, by Andrea Beaty
2) The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
3) The New Small Person by Lauren Child
4) Good Night, Good Night Construction Site, by Sherri Duskey Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld
5) Walk this World by Jenny Broom and Lotta Nieminen
P.S. I love that her list includes books with girls and children of color as protagonists and features a book discusses different cultures of the world. Well, and trucks. All of those things are important to me.
