If you haven’t heard of the Krispy Kreme Challenge, I’m ready to explain but, please, brace yourself:

In 2004, a dare was made among a handful of NC State students. Like most college dares, it wasn’t the brightest idea (although, as friends of these guys, they are really smart, awesome people). They would all start at the NC State Belltower, run 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme Store, eat 12 donuts, and run back. That year, the winning time was about 34 minutes. Seven years later, the tradition continues with the winners finishing in about 28 minutes despite a one mile lengthening of the course. It’s hard to believe unless you’ve seen it.

What’s even more amazing is that, to date, the race has raised well over $300,000 for the North Carolina Children’s Hospital.

Although I didn’t run the race this year, I decided to check out the outrageous outfits and cheer the competitors. (And if you must know, my doughnut record is only three as a “casual” runner of the race.)

Wow, this guy is what I’d call a tall drink of water!

The two photos on the left are the male and female winners, respectively. The girl told me that she ate her doughnuts six at a time after first, stepping on them to flatten, and second, dunking in water. Yum?
